Basic Mom Week in Review - 06/26/16

5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned

1. While cleaning the house, I told my 2-year-old that it was her job to take the crayon container downstairs to the art desk. About 5 seconds later, I heard the sound of dozens of crayons hitting the floor.

Lesson: This is why it takes twice as long to clean the house when the kids "help."

2. This conversation:

Me (to 7-Year-Old): I washed your blanket.

7-Year-Old: Thank you.

2-Year-Old: You wash my blanket?

Me: No. I just washed it a little while ago.

Grandma: Why? Do you put boogers on it?

 . . .

. . .

2-Year-Old (very quietly): Sometimes I do.

Lesson: I should probably wash my 2-year-old's blanket more often.

3. I found a breakfast plate in the hallway.

Lesson: It's not even the second week of summer vacation, and I've already lost control.

4. This conversation among sisters as my 2-year-old was tearing apart her paper towel.

7-Year-Old: What are you doing?

2-Year-Old: Ripping the crusts off.

Lesson: I should begin talks with the people at Uncrustables about a line of crust-less paper products so I can profit from the weird whims of kids.

5. I caught my 7-year-old watching her sister nap. When she saw me watching her, she put her hand over heart, and said, "She is so sweet!"

Lesson: My kids get along best when one of them is sleeping.

Bonus: I ran in my first 5K race yesterday. I posted a decent picture of myself after I had caught my breath and no longer felt like I was going to pass out on Facebook. Here's what I actually looked like moments after I finished:
