Basic Mom Week in Review - 10/01/17
/5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned
1. We let my girls choose the team symbols and names when we played Shoutrageous! with my best friend. My 8-year-old, who teamed up with my best friend, chose the apple symbol and named their team "Awesome Apples" (pretty wholesome). My 4-year-old, who was my teammate, chose the wine glass and named our team "Cool Wine" (Ummm . . .).
Lesson: I really hope my 4-year-old is never in charge of naming anything at preschool.
2. This exchange while my 4-year-old was working on a puzzle:
4-Year-Old: Mom, can you hand me the box?
Me: Sure. [hands box to 4-Year-Old]
4-Year-Old: [Studies box then returns focus to puzzle pieces]
4-Year-Old: I wish there were directions!
Lesson: Sometimes this is the only possible reaction to my daughter:
3. While walking back from dropping her sister off at the bus stop, my 4-year-old sniffed the air and said, "It smells like ketchup and fall."
Lesson: Mmmm, ketchup, the condiment of autumn* . . .
*If anyone in the condiment-making world reads this, PLEASE DO NOT take this as a sign that the world is ready for pumpkin spice ketchup.
4. My 4-year-old and I played Project Runway with Little People and Play Doh. In addition to being a designer, my 4-year-old also played the judge and promptly chose her design (left) as the winning look.
Lesson: I have never felt a closer connection to Rob Schneider's character in Big Daddy.
5. This exchange while practicing emotions with my 4-year-old:
Me: Show me your most innocent face.
4-Year-Old: I don't have an innocent face!
Lesson: My daughter (A.K.A. founder of team "Cool Wine") is very self-aware.
