Basic Mom Week in Review - 12/06/15
/5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned
1. My 6-year-old gave me this thoughtful surprise:
Lesson: There is a small chance my daughter has been exposed to too many advertisements this holiday season. Or maybe I just talk about coupons too much.
2. While at the doctor's office, I asked my 2-year-old what she thought the duckling was eating in this picture :
Her response: "Chicken!"
Lesson: My daughter believes her doctor's office is decorated with depictions of borderline-cannibalism.
3. My daughter left this note for our Elf on the Shelf after accidentally knocking him over:
Lesson: Parenting is a real struggle between creating magic and wonder for your children and being unsure whether you are messing with their mental health.
4. This conversation with my 2-year-old, after discussing whether certain Frozen characters were human or not:
Me: Are you human?
2-Year-Old: Yes.
Me: Is Daddy human?
2-Year-Old: Yes.
Me: Am I human?
2-Year-Old: No.
Me: No? Then what am I?
2-Year-Old: Mommy!
Lesson: Just as I feared, motherhood has robbed me of my humanity.
5. Michigan State defeated Iowa to win the Big Ten Championship.
[pause for applause]
Lesson: When the Michigan State game starts at 8:17PM Saturday night, and you usually work on your weekly blog after the kids go to bed on Saturday night, your blog will not be ready to post at its usual time Sunday morning. Better late than never! (A saying which also applies to touchdowns.)
