Basic Mom Week in Review - 12/20/15

5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned

1. My 2-year-old disabled my phone while we were grocery shopping (we all knew this would happen sooner or later).

Lesson: A disabled iPhone is quite inconvenient for a mom who uses digital coupons (and her phone as a distraction device for her 2-year-old) .

2. We took my daughters to see The Good Dinosaur, which is about a dinosaur named Arlo. The next day when I asked my 2-year-old if she remembered the dinosaur's name, she said, "Carlos."

Lesson: Maybe my daughter was watching a different movie called "El Buen Dinosaurio."

3. My husband asked my 2-year-old to put the Barbies away.

Lesson: I think my 2-year-old has learned the art of "doing something terribly so as not to be asked to do that thing again."

4. We didn't listen to music on Spotify the whole week because my husband was out of town and I just assumed he did something complicated to get it to play through our TV speakers. Then Friday evening, I suggested we have a dance party, and my 6-year-old said, "I'll turn on Spotify!"

And she did.

Lesson: I've become the sitcom mother who needs her child to program the VCR (which is a reference that will be lost on my daughters' generation - they'll be like, "What's a sitcom? Is that like a Netflix original series? Also, what's a VCR?").

5. While my daughters were watching everyone's favorite holiday movie (Hocus Pocus, obviously), my 6-year-old was secretively writing something on a piece of paper. After I put the kids to bed, I snooped at her work and found this:

Lesson: She doesn't have a photographic memory - but she wasn't too far off:
