Basic Mom Week in Review - 08/02/15
/5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned
1. My toddler lost it when I told her she couldn't have any more ranch dressing. (She'd already gone through at least two servings - I'm not some ranch-withholding monster).
Lesson: I'm raising a real American.
2. I swept the kitchen, and then I closed the refrigerator in a way that did not please these Frosted Mini Wheats.
Lesson: There's really no point in sweeping the kitchen when you keep spiteful cereal containers on top of the refrigerator.
3. My 6-year-old complained that it was too hot outside, so she constructed her own shade with a pool noodle and a towel.
Lesson: I would say my 6-year-old is clever, but it would have been less work to run through the sprinkler (which I turned on so that the girls could keep cool), or to move her chair under the giant tree in our backyard.
4. We went to a music event at the library, and my toddler was very upset that Mommy couldn't hold (and dance with) an extra 26 pounds for the entirety of the 45-minute show.
Lesson: I used to think the whole throwing-one's-self-on-the-floor-screaming was just an over-dramatization of toddler tantrums, but now I realize it is a very real tantrum tactic, and my toddler is a fan of employing it. So, that's fun.
5. After months of my best friend's prodding, I finally joined the cool kids and got an Instagram account.
Follow me, @basicmomblog, if you'd like.
Lesson: I should have joined Instagram years ago - why didn't anyone tell me? (JK, love you, Leigh!)
