Basic Mom Week in Review - 09/25/16
/5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned
1. My daughters helped me make nachos, and while I was putting them in the oven, my 3-year-old took it upon herself to start "cleaning up" the cheese.
Lesson: I'm pretty sure my daughter's immune system will be fully prepped for pre-school.
2. This interaction after a friendly bicycle race:
7-Year-Old (very excitedly yelling from the next room): Dad and I had a race from the corner to our house . . . and I won!
Me: Oh, yeah?
7-Year-Old: Yeah. I was always at least, like, a foot in front of him.
Husband: A foot? More like ten-feet!
Me: That's awesome!
Husband (walks into the bedroom, whispers to me): I could have won.
Lesson: My husband's petty side comes out when he is bested by a 7-year-old.
3. While we were feeding the ducks at the cider mill, my 3-year-old picked up the half gallon of cider and said, "Maybe they want some cider mill!" (Important to this story: she calls apple cider, "cider mill.")
Lesson: Kids are sweet, but impractical.
4. This conversation with my 3-year-old:
3-Year-Old: It smells like popcorn.
Me: Hmmm. I don't smell popcorn.
3-Year-Old: I think it's my boogers.
Lesson: I'm glad I don't have my daughter's boogers - I would be hungry and want to watch a movie all the time.
5. I'm chairing the PTA's Fun Run (our biggest fundraiser of the year), which, in addition to back-to-school, a birthday party, family stuff, etc. has had me a little stressed and scattered since mid-August. I also organized a PTA benefit night at the local Noodles & Company this past Tuesday night. After walking into the restaurant with my family while my mind was creating a to-do list and checking boxes and wondering how many people would show up tonight, my husband pointed out the window and said, "Did you really leave your door open?"
Lesson: I may be spending too much time in my head and not enough time in the real world lately.
