Basic Mom Week in Review - 05/28/17
/5 Things That Actually Happened This Week and the Lessons I Learned
1. After my 8-year-old accidentally stepped on my 3-year-old's foot while they were dancing, she left this note, along with her old stuffed rabbit, on my 3-year-old's bed.
Lesson: The diplomat is strong in this one.
2. This interaction after my kids were complaining at breakfast that they were tired and didn't get enough sleep:
Me: Eat your food. It'll help you feel better because food is energy.
3-Year-Old: Toys are energy.
Lesson: While I enjoy creative tactics for obtaining new toys, this one did not work.
3. When I asked my 3-year-old to put the dress she had been wearing quite happily earlier in the day back on after her nap so we could go to the park, she had a meltdown and started screaming, "I don't want to wear this dress! It's creepy and old!"
Lesson: This is why I keep wine on hand at my house.
4. While my 3-year-old was "helping me" make my bed, she pointed to the tag on the sheet and said, "There's a tag . . . Hashtag!"
Lesson: Hmmm . . .
5. This conversation while reading a book about the Antarctic:
Me: Why do you think it's called a chinstrap penguin?
3-Year-Old: Because it has weird eyes.
Lesson: Sometimes you throw your kid a softball to boost their confidence and it just doesn't work out.
